چکیده

The principles that guided the founders of the United States. John Guild opened the meeting with apologies that the agendum circulated in advance was by then out of CIE 1931 system for colorimetry are examined. The principles are applied to the Wright–Guild experimental dedate. He noted, however, that CIE rules then in effect allowed countries four months after the vote for national conterminations of the color mixture data to show in detail how and why each step in the development of the CIE sideration. Then he presented five revised resolutions to the Committee. Those five resolutions would prove in retrospect 1931 system for colorimetry came about. These steps are examined in the light of 65 years advanced knowledge of to be the most important single event ever to occur in colorimetry, because they would set the colorist’s agenda for colorimetry. The necessity for each of these principles in the modern world is examined critically to determine the next 65 years, and into the foreseeable future. In fact, resolutions of any sort could have been adopted only if the whether one might hold to the same principles if the system were being freshly formulated today. q 1997 John Witwo English-speaking nations could come to agreement upon them. This was because in the period after the First ley & Sons, Inc. Col Res Appl, 22, 11–23, 1997. World War, with the devastation of the European continent,

Evaluating the 1931 CIE Color Matching Functions

The use of colorimetry within industry has grown extensively in the last few decades. Central to many of today’s instruments is the work of the CIE system, established in 1931. Many have questioned the validity of the assumptions made by Wright (1928-29) and Guild (1931), some suggesting that the 1931 color matching functions are not the best representation of the human visual systems’ cone res...

Modeling Observer Variability and Metamerism Failure in Electronic Color Displays

The electronic display industry has begun a migration towards higher color gamut devices driven by LED, OLED, quantum dot and laser technologies capable of generating near monochromatic color stimuli in the traditional red, green, blue three-channel paradigm. The use of highly selective spectral stimuli, however, poses a risk to the consistency of visual experience amongst a group of disparate,...

Calculation of number of distinguishable colours by real normal observers

The colour-matching functions of standard observers proposed by the CIE represent the normal colour vision for the worldwide population. But there are deviations in the colourmatching functions for real observers with a normal colour vision, so the observer metamerism index was defined by CIE to evaluate the mismatch between them in colour appearance. In this work, we present an alternative for...

Calculation of the Optimal Colors of Linear Input Devices

A new method for calculating the optimal colors of any linear input device is proposed. The algorithm searches systematically the two types of optimal colors in the R+G+B planes of the device. In this way, the loci of optimal colors associated to the input device can be plotted in its own chromaticity diagram, but also in CIE (human) color spaces. Thus, we can make a comparison in CIE color spa...
